Star Wars
This is my origin story. Or my creative origin story I should say. I was two months into my new job as executive assistant to Spike’s head of creative at the time when I overheard the editorial team discussing wanting to do something big for our Star Wars Holiday marathon. Our VP found out I was a huge Star Wars fan and invited me to pitch ideas. I came in the next day with a parody song of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” that I changed to “The Empire is Coming to Town.” After that, I was allowed to work on all types of projects within the department and this spot eventually led to me taking over the weekly movies campaign as lead producer, all while being an assistant. A few months later, this creative went on to win a Gold Promax Award for Best Holiday spot. Ten or so years later, it’s still one of my proudest moments as a writer.
